Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some questions we have received throughout the years from prospective church members and leaders. We hope they answer your own questions, and if they do not, feel free to email us at ehf@gmail.com.
Am I qualified to teach as a child educator or act as the church coordinator?
We are looking for passionate people that either have self-taught and/or professional experience with education or coordination. These roles do require organization, self-starter, and people skills, so we do encourage people to feel confident in those areas.
What type of training will the child educators get? How much time is required for training?
All educators complete a two-part training (plus a booster if needed) to prepare for the program. In total, there can be up to 8 hours of training for all parts, depending on the training needs of the educators.
Can guardians who are not the biological parent participate in the program?
Yes, we celebrate all types of family structures to participate, to include guardians that provide a majority of the childcare responsibilities. This can be grandparents, siblings, aunties/uncles, friend of family, adoptive guardians, etc.
Our congregation is an older congregation with fewer families with small children. Can we still participate?
We encourgage older congregations to partner with other congregations and community groups to recruit families with children in 1st-5th grade (6-11 years old).
What churches can join the program?
Any church within the Baptist General Convention of Virginia is eligible to host the EHF program. Please check our Eligibility page for additional information.
Will there be an educational curriculum for older children (over age 11)?
There are two options for older children: a congregation member will be trained to deliver the Teen Cuisine program, which teaches teens to cook and make healthy food choices; or older children will be trained to assist with the younger children's class.
